Description
The first Kurdish novel by Erebê Şemo, “Şivanê Kurmanca”, has been republished after 74 years in its original form using Celadet Elî Bedirxan’s alphabet by Lîs Publishing House. Originally written in 1929 in Latin script by Îsahak Margolov and published in 1935 by the Rewan Government Press, the book now reaches new readers in a fresh edition. It will be presented at the 9th Amed Culture and Arts Festival. This edition was prepared by Kurdish writer, translator, and linguist Mustafa Aydogan and will be available to readers at the end of May.
In his extensive foreword, Mustafa Aydogan discusses many aspects of both the book and its author, Erebê Şemo, and sheds light on the history of its creation.
“The first Kurdish novel was printed in 1935 using the alphabet created by Îsahak Marogûlov. Later, it was translated into Russian by Î. Orstrogoskaya, then into French by Basil Nikitine, and afterward into Kurdish by Nuredîn Zaza from the French version. Thus Şivanê Kurd was published in several translated forms and spread among the Kurds. When Zaza translated it into Kurdish, he changed the title to Şivanê Kurd. With this edition by Lîs Publishing House, the novel is finally published in its original language, under its original title Şivanê Kurmanca.”
