Description
This novel focuses on Zeynel Efendi from the Xormekan tribe. The Xormekan are Alevis, but they are also very familiar with the ideas and beliefs of the Sunnis. They are Dimilî, but they speak perfect Kurmanji.
To write the novel about Zeynel Efendi, the author traveled twice to Gimgim, Xinûs, and the villages of the Xormekan, where he was a guest in their homes. On one of these trips, he was also a guest of Türkan Hanım, Zeynel Efendi's granddaughter. He conversed with her, received information from her, and obtained her consent to write the novel.
Although the novel tells the biography of Zeynel Efendi, it is also intertwined with the history of the Kurds at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, with the customs and traditions of the Kurdish tribes, the relations between Kurds and Armenians, and the war between Russia and the Ottoman Empire.
