Since my childhood, I have loved the Kurdish storytelling tradition — xemîşok (fairy tales), qirwelk (legends), dûrik, pêkenîn, and the songs of the Dengbêjs. I listen to them with devotion, read them, write them down, and retell them. Thus began the collection that has now become this anthology. My affection for these stories inspired me to prepare this work — so that it may reach your hands.

For forty years, I have been gathering these tales so that our children may read them, cherish the words of their ancestors, and learn their language through stories that speak from the heart.

Since 1980, I have been writing children’s stories. Of course, many of these tales exist in various versions across different regions of Kurdistan and beyond. Some resemble the fables of Aesop, others those of La Fontaine, and some have become Kurdish classics.
To make the stories easy for children to understand, I used a simple and clear language. I tried to make the tone of the tales sound popular and oral — like that of traditional storytellers — so that every child can grasp them.

I hope our children will love these stories, embrace them warmly, and read them with joy.

In this expanded edition, the anthology is beautifully illustrated and contains 213 stories.
