Evdalê Zeynikê is a master and pioneer in the art of Dengbêj. In Kurdish oral tradition, Evdalê Zeynikê is considered the oldest Dengbêj whose songs have been preserved to the present day. Numerous important Dengbêj have cherished Evdal's songs like a treasure and passed them down from generation to generation up to our time.
Evdal lived an exceptionally long life. It is reported that he lived for more than a hundred years. It is known that Evdal died in 1913. Therefore, we can assume that Evdalê Zeynikê was born at the beginning of the 19th century.
Evdalê Zeynikê became a legend among the people during his lifetime. His questions and pronouncements are passed down like parables and proverbs. Evdal also had a great influence on the Dengbêj who came after him. The Dengbêj tradition of Serhed developed further on the foundations he laid.
The first writer and folklore researcher who dealt with Evdalê Zeynikê, conducted interviews, visited the places where Evdal had lived, and tracked down Evdalê Zeynikê's grandchildren is Ahmet Aras. This book is the result of his years of research.
