Description

Ein sorgfältig ausgewähltes Werk kurdischer Literatur – kuratiert für Leserinnen und Leser, die Sprache, Geschichte und Kultur vertiefen möchten.

This novel tells of one of the darkest eras in Kurdistan's history – a time when the country was under severe pressure and constant attack.

The Ottoman Empire extended its rule with violence and military power over Armenia, Syria, Mesopotamia, Arabia, and Egypt, later advancing into the Balkans. Finally, the armed troops also turned against Kurdistan to occupy the land of the Kurds. At the same time, the Shah of Iran also participated in these campaigns and sent his armies into the Kurdish territories. Despite this overwhelming force, the Kurds offered determined resistance and fought with great bravery against the occupying powers.

The novel focuses on the struggle for Dimdim Castle – a symbol of the resistance of a people who wanted to defend their homeland and dignity. This struggle was led not by a prince or a large landowner, but by a simple, honorable Kurd: Xano. He had Dimdim Castle built and, together with his people, confronted the attacking powers. People called him "Xanoyê Çengzêrîn."

The novel impressively portrays the courage of the Kurds, their fight for freedom, and the protection of their homeland. Numerous Kurdish and international authors had already addressed this narrative before. But Erebê Şemo, one of the most significant Kurdish novelists, transformed this story into a lasting work of Kurdish literature with his clear, powerful, and evocative language.
